What is  sessmgr.exe

The sessmgr.exe process, or Session Manager executable file, is a Windows program for processing on-hand, real-time information. It is executed on every startup of the operating system. Sessmgr.exe initiates environmental variables of all system activities, starts the kernel or the computer’s central component, creates DOS mode device mappings, creates paging files of the virtual memory, and runs the winlogon.exe or the logon manager where it activates the user mode of the operating system. When the boot process finishes, the program activity resides in the memory which can be viewed running when checked out in the Task Manager window. When these processes are terminated normally, then the system shuts down. But when ended unexpectedly, it causes system hanging and the system stops responding. The sessmgr.exe process is an important Windows component, and should not be tweaked or altered in any way as it exists on many versions of Windows, such as in Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 2000.
