What is  dfssvc.exe

The file dfssvc.exe installs the Distributed File System service for Windows Servers, including Windows NT4, 2000 and 2003. The program enables companies hosting several servers to access and share files in uniform directories or logical volumes, as sorted out by the DFS service. This enables end-users to utilize organizational data as needed, without having to search for the documents in each of the company’s servers. The DFS service helps in faster document retrievals, critical to smooth organizational operations. The program is installed as a systems process in the default path, C:\Windows\System32. A number of users found that computer speed is compromised when the program is initialized, theorizing that dfssvc.exe is CPU-intensive and as such, can override other system processes in order for the DFS service to complete its tasks. There are opposing views as to whether the file should be uninstalled or not. General consensus however, reveals that unless the file is being utilized; it can be removed without causing any problems to other Windows system processes.
