What is rundll32.exe

The rundll32.exe process is a Windows system file that is needed to store modules in Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs), so these can be loaded through the executable file when users invoke applications that use the modules. One huge advantage of saving modules for applications in DL Libraries is that it saves up on system memory utilization because the files are not directly loaded into the system until the application was called by an executable file, in this case, rundll32.exe. Simply put, the modules are only launched into the system’s memory when the application that needs them is invoked by the user. The file is saved in C:\Windows]\System 32, as C:\Windows\System 32\rundll32.exe. Generally, users will not see rundll32 running in Task Manager even when it has already been invoked. In cases where the rundll32.exe file appears in Task Manager, this is the result of a cloaked malware that executed itself into the system as the RUNDLL32 file of your Windows system.
