Distributed File System Replication is a Windows system file executed through dfsr.exe. This file installs with the OS software and should not be uninstalled or stopped to prevent system loading errors. The file is in the System folder in the default path for OS applications, specifically, C:\Windows\System 32\dfsr.exe. The size of the file is 2 MB, and it uses around 8 MB RAM space. The process makes certain that all network files can be accessed by computers connected to the network, regardless of what server they are using. The service also ensures that all changes to folders – whether there were those that were recently added, altered or taken out from the network, are alerted to the users in real time. The process does not launch with system boot-up, but is instead invoked by the system only when needed. In short, Windows will call the process only when there is a need for it. Therefore, this does not run in the background when not in use.
