The process known as svchost is executed through the file svchost.exe. It is Windows’ generic executable host that is invoked by a number of system services. Also called Service Host, the file allows “shared service processes” which basically means that several applications can be launched through the same executable file. In the case of Windows system services, the shared executable is Service Host. Installed in the System folder of Windows, the file may run several processes at a time. This translates to a number of Service Host files being present on your Task List at the same time. There are about five GDI Objects related to the file, and six User Objects. Context switches is 40/sec. and average I/O read and write operations is 9/min. There are other versions of the svchost executable file, generally based on their image hashes. Parent process is services.exe, while child processes associated with the file are wmiprvse.exe, wscntfy.exe, msniasvc.exe, and wuauclt.exe.
