Application Layer Gateway Service is a process that is compatible with older versions of Windows operating systems, particularly Windows XP versions; and this file installs with the executable alg.exe. The file is a subcomponent of Microsoft’s ICS and ICF services. ICS, known as Internet Connection Sharing, enables users with Windows XP installed on their PCs to share an internet connection through one portable Internet-capable device like a 3G mobile phone, or broadband Ethernet. ICF, also known as Internet Connection Firewall, works in much the same way; where users connected to the Internet through the same portable device, will have the Firewall service enabled on their computers, provided they are still connected to the Internet and through the same Internet connection device. In other words, the file allows users connected to a Local Area Network to connect to the Internet through one Internet-connected PC. The file is only compatible with Windows 2003 Servers and XP, XP Home, and XP Professional.
