What is  msahci.sys

MS AHCI is a system driver executed through msahci.sys. According to available data, the driver file was developed by Microsoft specifically for the SATA, otherwise known as Serial Advanced Technology Attachment, mode of a computer’s disk device. The file enables the system’s hardware to communicate with the storage devices attached to the PC. The process is also known as MS AHCI 1.0 Standard Driver. Installation folder for the file is C:\Windows\System 32\Drivers\msahci.sys. The file is generally included in the software for Windows operating systems. There were issues reported by users where they encountered the Blue Screen of Death, which was apparently caused by the msahci.sys file. It was found that the error was caused by incompatibility issues between the driver file and the drivers for AMD chipsets. The error was generally experienced by users whose computers were installed with versions of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. A hotfix was provided by Microsoft to address the issue.
