A system process installed with the Windows OS software known as Windows Presentation Foundation Font Cache Service, and with the file extension of presentationfontcache.exe; is used by developers that designed an application through the .NET Framework. The file saves to memory the most commonly used fonts, so that when these are invoked, they can be easily retrieved. This specific function of the file is only applicable on systems that run on Windows XP and Windows 2003. In Windows Vista, the file serves as a subsystem of the .NET Framework where graphical effects that are displayed on the monitor are enabled by the file. Simply put, the commonly used font data that the file stored into memory are made available, ready to execute whenever these are called by an application or program. This makes loading of the font data so much faster because they are retrieved from memory, instead of from the hard disk.
