A product of Microsoft Corporation, srv.sys is the executable file that serves as a device driver for the input/output (I/O) or receive/send signal communication processes between computers in a Windows network. Srv.sys, or Server System, is the basic worker threads in a computer and can be found in the Drivers folder in the Windows Explorer. Srv.sys picks up all data requests of an SMB (or System Management Bus, the computer’s data communication platform). By default, srv.sys resides in the directory of the local folder or path C:\Progam Files\Common Files and is commonly 108,648-byte in size although it can be found in smaller byte sizes (14,848 bytes, 16,475 bytes, 16,986 bytes, 21,504 bytes, 22,016 bytes, and 34,358 bytes) up to 311,808 bytes or 304.5 KB. Srv.sys is a critical and important component in the Windows operating system. It is not recommended to alter or disable it in any way as doing so may result in system errors in the machine.
How can I stop srv.sys and should I?
Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. srv.sys. is used by Microsoft Windows, If you shut down srv.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop srv.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Microsoft Windows, from your system.
