What is  w32tm.exe

Windows Time Service Tools, with executable file extension of w32tm.exe, is part of the software for several versions of the Windows Operating System, particular, Windows XP, Windows 7, Vista, Windows Server 2003 and 2003 R2, Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2. By default, the process is installed when any of these Windows OS versions is installed on the computer. The file provides users with options for changing the settings of the Windows Time Service. The file may likewise be utilized to check and resolve issues with Windows Time. The file runs as a Windows system service and as such, it is not advisable to disable the file so the system can load successfully every time the computer boots upon startup. Startup registry entry for the file is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\. As a rule, registry entries should not be altered or modified in any way. Doing so could cause unrecoverable system errors. This being said, only advanced users should attempt to change registry entries for troubleshooting purposes and only in cases where there is no other alternative.
