What is  trustedinstaller.exe

The executable file trustedinstaller.exe is part of your Windows OS system files. Its process name is Windows Modules Installer, with a typical disk image location of C:\Windows\Servicing\trustedinstaller.exe. The file’s main responsibility is to enable users to install, alter or remove Windows updates, including some of the update’s components. The file runs as a Windows background service as SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Services\TrustedInstaller. The file is an essential process that is recommended to remain installed on the computer. However, if the file is hogging CPU memory, users suggest turning off the automatic update option and choosing instead the option “Download updates but let me choose whether to install them.” This way, the file is still enabled but will not automatically install updates every time these are available. In other cases where the file was seen to use up CPU resources, the file was found to be looking for updates. Once the search has been completed, CPU usage usually goes back to normal.
