What is  crss.exe

The file crss.exe does not seem to belong to any legitimate process, application or software. For the most part, looking for a specific description of the file yields negative results, i.e. negative processes associated with the file, developed to harm computer systems and processes. The file should not be confused with another file that looks somewhat similar to crss.exe. The legitimate file is csrss.exe, and is part of the Windows OS software. The discrepancy between the two files is not easily noticed, especially for users who are not in the habit of closely monitoring processes running in their system. But on closer look, the negative file is missing an “s” after its first letter, which is “c.” The valid Windows file’s first two letters are “c” and “s,” whereas the illegitimate file’s first two letters are “c” and “r.” This slight change in the first two letter of each of the files, already poses a huge difference on the way each file impacts the system. The first one, crss.exe, overrides processes and injects viruses into the system, while the second one, csrss.exe, enables Windows Client Server Runtime SubSystem, an application that allows the system to execute API queries.
