The file atkctr.dll can be located under the System32 folder. It has no known author information. It usually runs upon startup of the Internet Explorer. The file may also be associated with BHO.HNP or Explorer Browser Help Objects which are often used by different computer threats. The atkctr.dll is registered as a Dynamic Link Library but is often detected as a malware or backdoor Trojan. The file usually attaches itself to a legitimate Windows process like the explorer.exe of the Internet Explorer and runs alongside it. The file can also control and monitor the behaviors of the browser, particularly the Internet Explorer. It is not a Windows core file which makes it safe to be removed. An antivirus program may help in removing the file as manually deleting it may have no effect because it is usually attached to another process or file.
