Hi Jovanni,
Step 1. Follow these steps to start the computer in safe mode.
Run a full computer scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner to make sure that the computer is virus free. The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free downloadable security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It works with your existing antivirus software. Refer to this link for downloading: http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx Step 3. Execute the sfc /scannow commandThe sfc /scannow feature will check all of essential Windows files and replace it if the System File Checker (sfc) finds it's corrupted, damaged or missing. To run sfc /scannow command, please follow the steps:1).Press "Windows+X" to bring up the menu below and then select "Command Prompt (Admin)" option. ![]() 2).Click "Yes" to run the command. ![]() ![]() Step 4. Check if the device is getting detected in device manager. Follow the steps to go to device manager i.Click Start, type devmgmt.msc and press enter. ii.Search for the name of the device If the device is not getting detected in device manager, then check if it is hidden device. i.Click show hidden devices under View ii.expand all the nods under device manager iii. There would be many grayed out entries in device manager uninstall all the grayed out entries under all the nods and then restart the computer and plug the external device to the computer and check if it works. Then install the drivers: Install the latest drivers from the manufacturer website and even make sure the driver is compatible with the version of operating system installed on your computer. check if it works. There are three ways to update a driver:
I hope this helps. Regards, Lokesh |

Hi Jovanni,
Have you tried restarting your PC in the Windows Safe Mode? Does the problem persist in this mode?
Once you\'re in the Safe Mode, you also have the option of performing a System Restore. This does not affect your data and takes your PC back to a time when you didn\'t have this problem.
By the way, the next time you receive the error about the DCOM service termination, try restarting the service manually. You must be logged on as an administrator to do this:
1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type administrative tools, and then click Administrative Tools.
2. Double-click Services. If you\'re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3. Right-click the DCOM server process launcher service, and then click Properties.
4. On the General tab, next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic is selected.
5. If the service is not already running, under Service status, click Start, and then click OK. If you\'re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Last but not the least, definitely try locating and reinstalling the plug and play driver being specified in the error message. Simply uninstall it through the Device Manager, restart your PC and let Windows install the driver for you.
Keep us posted,
James

I would try either updating your plug and play driver or rolling back to an older version of the driver. We have written this article on how to roll back a driver:

Please let me know if this does not fix the problem.
