Developed by Symantec Corporation, Navex15.sys is the driver file for Norton Antivirus Executable 15, a malware removal and prevention tool more known as Symantec Antivirus Engine. Norton AntiVirus provides anti-malware within a subscription period. Navex15.sys uses heuristics and signatures to identify viruses and other threats. Other Navex15.sys features include spam guard, e-mail filtering and protection from phishing. A collection of strategies are applied. Signature-based detection includes searching for familiar data patterns within executable code, although it is a possibility for any computer to be affected with malware with no known signature. To counter threats, heuristics are used. A particular type of heuristic method such as generic signature can identify viruses and its variants by tracking known malicious codes in files. Antivirus software also predicts file function by running it via a sandbox to analyze performance against malicious actions. Navex15.sys performs indicated tasks based on encoded instructions against a particular data file which must be parsed in order to be useful.
