The executable process file, ashmaisv.exe (version 4.8.1227.0), is also identified as avast! E-Mail Scanner Service that is part of the software avast! Antivirus Application as developed by ALWIL Software. The process file is found to be running in the Task Manager as the process ashmaisv.exe and is located in the subfolder of C:\Program Files or sometimes in C:\, commonly at C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4. Furthermore, the process file ashmaisv.exe is also found in Program File\Alwil Software\avas4\ashMaiSv.exe folder with a directory of %PROGRAMFILE%\Avast4. It has features including that of being a digitally Verisign signed file, however, is not considered as a Windows core file nor does it have a visible window. The process file ashmaisv.exe is not CPU intensive, which has a Windows 7 or XP size file of 241,712 bytes on all incidences, 247,160 bytes and 8 other variants. Functionally, it is connected to the mechanism that scans e-mail, thus it uses ports in able to connect to the Internet or to the Local Area Network or LAN.
