What is  avast.setup

The avast.setup process is the file driver that launches the antivirus named Avast! Developed by Avast Software, a company in Prague, Czech Republic. Avast! Antivirus offers anti-spyware, and self-protection and anti-rootkit capabilities. Avast also has a freeware version available to Windows, Mac, and Linux computers used by businesses and home users. Avast! Antivirus has the following features: • Kernel-based antivirus engine • Resident protection with individual “shields” or modules with individual configuration and enable/disable buttons • System shield, file and mail shields, Web shield, script shield, Instant Messaging and shield, and network shield, among others • Anti-spyware and anti-rootkit guards • Self-protection against malware that terminates and damages Avast! Processes • Automatic updates for the program and for the system database, with threat definition • Audible alarms featuring vocal updates and warnings when threat is detected • User control on boot and scan schedules including infected file removal and other actions • Virus Chest and Quarantine section for infected files

How can I stop avast.setup and should I?

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. avast.setup. is used by Avast! Antivirus, If you shut down avast.setup, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop avast.setup, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Avast! Antivirus, from your system.
