What is  vprotray.exe

The vptray.exe process is the executable file defined as the VirusProtect Tray fast icon to access and configure the Norton AntiVirus program settings. When executed, the file vptray.exe displays a window where the user can monitor Norton AntiVirus applications. Vptray.exe is loaded during Windows startup, creating automatic-run functionalities in the system registry. Vptray.exe is not included as a critical Windows component, as terminating the program does not close or uninstall the Norton AntiVirus program; it only removes the VirusProtect Tray icon from the system tray. There are several reported problems in using the vptray.exe file in version 7 of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition, such as Windows’ inability to auto-start at the same time vptray.exe loads, instances of system crashes that are difficult to track, and high CPU resource usage. Users are advised to disable the vptray.exe icon on similar occasions. These problems, however, have already been addressed in the later versions of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition.
