What is  start.exe

The file start.exe is associated with the software for Authentium ESP, Aquarius Soft PC Remote Shutdown, and BT Internet Security Pack. But based on user reports, the file may actually be associated with many other applications. It serves as a launcher for a number of applications. There have likewise been reports that there are other variations of the start.exe file that are believed to be malicious files that cause system errors, software crashes, and even Blue Screen of Death. One particular copy installs as a spyware, another as malware; and another more malicious clone has been found to hijack browser settings, directing the user to websites that are questionable and objectionable. Usually, errors that were linked to the legitimate start.exe file, had to do with certain applications that were not able to launch, where the system “cannot find start.exe” associated with the application. The file is usually located in a subfolder of Program Files.
