What is  osk.exe

Osk.exe is the process file for On-screen Keyboard, a virtual keyboard allows the user to enter characters, usually operated with input devices that includes a touchscreen, actual computer keyboard, as well as a computer mouse. Virtual keyboards are used as on-screen input devices without physical keyboard. It allows input from various input devices like computer mice, switches, or other assistive technology devices. It functions where user input texts by tapping the virtual keyboard. Virtual keyboards are used as emulation feature software used for systems with fewer buttons than computer keyboards. Virtual keyboards are categorized by: 1) Physical keyboards that have keys comprising electronically-changeable integrated displays in the keypads. 2) Virtual Keyboards that have touchscreen layouts called sensing areas. 3) Optically-projected Keyboard layouts which have similar arrangements of sensing areas that optically detects human finger and hand motions. On desktop PCs, one important purpose of virtual keyboards is providing the alternative input mechanism for use of people who cannot use the physical keyboard.
