The file imonnt.exe, known as Intel Active Monitor Win9x Background Service, belongs to software Intel Active Monitor by Intel. The Intel Active Monitor is an exclusive alerting utility on Intel Desktop Boards that helps the user monitor the cooling and overall system health, which is important as the PC's performance is increased. It works with specialized sensors on the Intel Desktop Board to monitor constantly the system's voltages, power supply, temperature, and fan speeds, which could affect the overall health of the computer. This application displays cooling information and enables the user to identify the lookup desktop board, processor type and speed, memory information, and chipset. The information can be used to customize the alerts that may be generated and their thresholds. Intel Active Monitor does not support Intel Desktop Boards based on 915G, 915P, 925X and future chipsets that are supported by Intel Desktop Utilities.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. imonnt.exe. is used by Intel Active Monitor, If you shut down imonnt.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop imonnt.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Intel Active Monitor, from your system.
