The hplun.dll file is the process called HotPlug help module that is used by the application BestCrypt created by Jetico. It is not a core file for Windows. It runs when you start Windows using the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\AppInit_DLLs. This is not a visible process. It can monitor and control other applications. The hplun.dll file has a digital signature from Jetico Inc. with certificate issued by VeriSign Time Stamping Services Signer- G2. A dynamic link library [DLL] file is a program that has functions that can be shared with other programs. It has a mechanism for shared code and data that can be applied to various applications at the same time that means it can be reused or organized into a module to save disk space and memory. This mechanism also allows a developer to improve the functions of a program without the need to recompile or re-link. BestCrypt is a software that encrypts your files and folders from removable storage, active computers, network storage and shared workstations for security purposes.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. hplun.dll. is used by BestCrypt, If you shut down hplun.dll, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop hplun.dll, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is BestCrypt, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
