The hbsrv.exe file is the process called HbSrv Module that is used by the application Hotbar Web Tools created by Hotbar.com. It is not a core file for Windows that means the operating system can run without requiring this process. This process is an adware. Hotbar Web Tools or Hotbar is a browser and system enhancement suite that is provided by ShopperReports.com, Hotbar.com and Wowpapers.com. This software shows various forms of advertising on the desktop coming from the three Websites. It is a collection of tools and add-ons. Its main feature is the Hotbar toolbar that is an Internet Explorer browser toolbar. This toolbar includes several programs such as AccuWeather that serves as local weather program, Outlook Tools that provides add-ons for Microsoft Outlook Express and Outlook E-mail applications, ShopperReports that serves as add-on for Internet Explorer and pops out advertising side search bar.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. hbsrv.exe. is used by Hotbar Web Tools, If you shut down hbsrv.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop hbsrv.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Hotbar Web Tools, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Hotbar Web Tools, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
