The dot1xcfg.exe process is also known as the Intel PROSet/Wireless and was created by the Intel Corportation. The Intel PROSet/Wireless software works alongside the Intel PRO/Wireless Network Connection hardware modules to enable the program to be connected to an Intel Centrino processor technology notebook to wireless LAN. The software is considered to be a top notch enterprise grade, but it enables for an intuitive and simplified user interface that allows even beginner or amateur computer users to be able to take advantage of its features. This process is considered to be highly desirable along IT managers because it contains a set of features such as connection to and automatic detection of the wireless access points that are based on adapter preferences, an enhanced sign-on system which enables the user to enter their respective credentials for a quick and easy connection to the network, detection of access point security levels, and the opportunity to be given a secure and easy switching between networks. The features that are produced by the dot1xcfg.exe process allows for easy connectivity to Wi-Fi networks and enhances productivity.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. dot1xcfg.exe. is used by Intel PROSet/Wireless, If you shut down dot1xcfg.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop dot1xcfg.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Intel PROSet/Wireless, from your system.
