Follow the steps below to try repairing your Windows Live Mail installation in your Windows 7 laptop...
STEP 1. Go to Control Panel. Click Programs, then Programs and Features.
STEP 2. Select Windows Live Essentials by right-clicking on it. Next, click Uninstall/Change.
STEP 3. From the dialogue box, choose Repair all Windows Live programs. Upon completing the repair process, restart your computer.
Kindly let us know if this works. If it doesn\'t, are you by any chance using a Hotmail account with Windows Live Mail?

Hi Arthur,
Let\'s give these solutions a try first:
1. Enabling SMTP authentication
Go to : Tools - Accounts - * your account* - Properties - Advanced tab
- select the \" My outgoing server requires authentication \" option - click on OK.
2. Enabling SSL connection
Go to : Tools - Accounts - * your account* - Properties - Servers tab - select the \" This server requires a secure connection (SSL) \" option - click on OK.
SMTP 465 and POP3 995.
3. Go to : Tools - Accounts - * your account* - Properties - General Tab - select \"Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing\"
Servers Tab - select \"Remember password\" and
\"Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing\"
Connection Tab- select \"Always connect to this account using:\"
and in the drop down menu choose Local Area Network
