The tsmresident.exe process is an executable program resource file distributed with other EXE application processes, some SYS driver files, certain DLL (Dynamic Link Library) modules, specific background process items and various associated resource components that are required by the firmware packages and device driver software distributions of certain IBM/Lenovo laptops. The tsmresident.exe process is specifically deployed as one of the components of the TSMResident module, which is an applet built into these associated IBM/Lenovo firmware components and device driver software resources. The tsmresident.exe process is implemented into the system upon the installation and configuration of these IBM/Lenovo firmware and driver software packages, which also means the tsmresident.exe file is integrated into the installers of these IBM/Lenovo firmware distributions and device driver software components.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. tsmresident.exe. is used by IBM/Lenovo TSMResident Module, If you shut down tsmresident.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop tsmresident.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is IBM/Lenovo TSMResident Module, from your system.
