The tpscrlk.exe file is an executable application process bundled with other EXE resources, SYS driver components, modular DLLs and other associated files that are required by the firmware and driver software components of certain IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad laptops, particularly models that do not have an integrated scroll lock key indicator light for notifying the user about the activation status of the scroll lock key. The tpscrlk.exe process is a component of a modular resource implemented into these associated ThinkPad firmware and driver software components, and this module is responsible for placing a status icon in the Windows System Tray. The tpscrlk.exe process along with the other components of this module implement the same functionalities users can get from a scroll lock key indicator light into this Windows System Tray icon.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. tpscrlk.exe. is used by Lenovo/IBM ThinkPad Scroll Lock Key Indicator Utility Module, If you shut down tpscrlk.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop tpscrlk.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Lenovo/IBM ThinkPad Scroll Lock Key Indicator Utility Module, from your system.
