Known by the internal or service name ThinkPad Message Client Loader, the tphkload.exe file is an instance of Windows process, and a component of ThinkPad On Screen Display utility tool, which is made by Lenovo Group Limited. The program that houses tphkload.exe is used for Windows, and displays result of using the special function keys of ThinkPad on its desktop screen. There is also option that is able to enhance the software ThinkPad’s function keys. Unlike before when it is installed during the download of the Configuration Utility of ThinkPad, the On Screen Display application has now its own set-up program that can be installed separately. Once downloaded, the components, which include tphkload.exe, are also installed, and must remain stored and running in the background. The tphkload.exe module runs in the background as a Windows service, and as the system account at the same time. Stopping this file can cause the program to disable and not work properly.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. tphkload.exe. is used by On Screen Display, If you shut down tphkload.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop tphkload.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is On Screen Display, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as On Screen Display, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
