ThinkPad Laptops use the application ThinkAdvantage Access Connections. This application can change the environment of the network of the computer. To be able to utilize such functionalities like this, the user needs to run the process qctray.exe. Qctray.exe provides the users with IBM Access Connections that will enable them to easily change network and Internet settings by simply choosing a profile. Each profile contains the network and Internet configuration settings which may be necessary to connect to a particular network. Qctray.exe supports Virtual Private Networking connections or uses a modem, a wired network adaptor, a Broadband device and a wireless network adaptor. Qctray.exe is significant for users who move from one place to another. Users can connect to a network at once by choosing the appropriate profile and they do not need to reconfigure the settings manually. The qctray.exe file is executed to launch the ThinkAdvantage Access Connections application and activate features of the application.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. qctray.exe. is used by ThinkAdvantage Access Connections, If you shut down qctray.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop qctray.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is ThinkAdvantage Access Connections, from your system.
