Computers that have wireless LAN, whether by Prism or an affiliate, need the file prismsvr.exe, because it is the driver that installs the utility to run the hardware device. Users noted that there are also DSL service providers that require the file to be installed in order to connect to the Internet via DSL. Licensed under Conexant Systems, the file likewise provides support for wireless USB. The file can be saved in either Windows System 32 or Program Files folder. Since the file is a hardware device driver, users advise against disabling the file, because it will prevent the device from working. It may also negatively affect system functions. However, some users found the file causes PC freezes; and disabling it did not affect their WLAN connection. If the prismsvr.exe was not installed primarily for a Prism LAN card or wireless devices of its affiliates; users found that uninstalling the file did not affect their computer system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. prismsvr.exe. is used by Prism Profiles Server Module, If you shut down prismsvr.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop prismsvr.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Prism Profiles Server Module, from your system.
