Lotus Notes software uses nupdate.exe file to update models and databases of the user. The nupdate.exe file enables the user to get updates from Lotus Notes server. When a user performs any changes on a document in a database, he or she may also need to perform a view update. Lotus Notes manages view updates. The user will request for a view update when the user thinks it necessary. The request will be placed on queue. Nupdate.exe is responsible in taking the request and executing them if Lotus Notes is activated. When Lotus Notes is installed in the system, nupdate.exe file loads up upon initialization. This is when the user can call on the functionalities of the application. It provides the user with features that help him or her in performing tasks using the application. The nupdate.exe file is also responsible for synchronizing and indexing within the application. It also serves as a migration utility that convert Micorsot Outlook mail files to Lotus Notes files.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. nupdate.exe. is used by Lotus Notes, If you shut down nupdate.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop nupdate.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Lotus Notes, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Lotus Notes, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.

The first thing you should do if nupdate.exe. is causing errors on your computer is to run a Windows registry scan with Registry Reviver If you are still seeing errors after this you should uninstall the program that nupdate.exe, belongs to, in this case Lotus Notes
