The ndetect.exe process is implemented as one of the executable component files of the Symantec LiveUpdate software, which is an application that is built into certain Symantec system security programs designed with a set of functionalities for monitoring and protecting the Windows-based system from Internet security threats, viruses, spyware components, worms, Trojans, backdoor rootkit programs and other malicious applications. The ndetect.exe process is specifically deployed as one of the main component files of the Symantec NetDetect module, which is built into the Symantec LiveUpdate software. Whenever the Symantec LiveUpdate program needs to implement certain functionalities integrated into the Symantec NetDetect module, the Symantec LiveUpdate software activates the ndetect.exe process. The ndetect.exe process then begins to call on other associated program files and references system and application-specific modular resources, in order to load the Symantec NetDetect module unto the Symantec LiveUpdate application and implement the requested functionalities into the system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. ndetect.exe. is used by Symantec LiveUpdate and Symantc NetDetect Module, If you shut down ndetect.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop ndetect.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Symantec LiveUpdate and Symantc NetDetect Module, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Symantec LiveUpdate and Symantc NetDetect Module, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
