The hknetsrv.exe file is the process called HkNetSrv Module that is used by the application HARDkey developed by SITEPRO SA. It is not a core file for Windows. This is not a visible program. This program sends or receives data to and from the Internet or LAN through open ports. HARDkey is a security software that uses two different methods. One method secures already compiled executables. The other method provides protection from source libraries. It lets you specify data files of the application that you want to encrypt. It uses an Integrated Management Environment for Software Protection that manages the whole production process so your product is secure and protected. The HARDkey USB applies two-factor authentication with a PIN and a key to comply with safety standards like ISO 17799/27001.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. hknetsrv.exe. is used by HARDkey, If you shut down hknetsrv.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop hknetsrv.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is HARDkey, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as HARDkey, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
