The wmpscfgs.exe process is an executable file that has been reported by many users as a variant of a malicious application belonging to the Mal/Generic-A family of malware programs. The same user reports claimed that the wmpscfgs.exe process is embedded with functionalities that allow it to create keys and entries that can be injected into the Windows System Registry, in order for the wmpscfgs.exe process to automatically initialize during system startup. Other user reports stated that the wmpscfgs.exe process is a variant of a malicious program from the TrojanDownloader:Win32/Unruy.C family of Trojans. The same user reports claimed that the wmpscfgs.exe process can operate in the background of the infected system without user consent, in order to search for vulnerable TCP/IP network ports that it can exploit and use to initiate contact with predesignated Web servers and download other malware programs implemented for gathering data and Internet browsing information from the infected system and its default Web browser. These predesignated Web servers, according to some users, are operated and managed by the authors of the wmpscfgs.exe malware, and the data collected by the wmpscfgs.exe process and its associated malware components is said to be transmitted to the same Web servers.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. wmpscfgs.exe. is used by Mal/Generic-A and TrojanDownloader:Win32/Unruy.C, If you shut down wmpscfgs.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop wmpscfgs.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Mal/Generic-A and TrojanDownloader:Win32/Unruy.C, from your system.
