The winkey.exe process is an EXE program file that is used by the Copernic WinKey software as its executable application dispatcher process. This means users can load and implement the functions of the Copernic WinKey program by executing the winkey.exe file. The winkey.exe process is placed in the system alongside other EXE/DLL/SYS program components and specific background process items upon the installation of the Copernic WinKey program. This software is classified as a Windows application integrated with a set of features that can allow users to map Windows hotkey combinations or keyboard shortcuts and implement these saved hotkeys into the Windows-based system. The winkey.exe process can be configured by the user to run in the background upon system startup, with a program icon in the Windows System Tray, in order to implement the saved hotkey combinations into the system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. winkey.exe. is used by Copernic WinKey, If you shut down winkey.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop winkey.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Copernic WinKey, from your system.

Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
