Called by the service name Passport Server Module, the process vtserver.exe, a type of an executable or EXE file, is a part of the software product IBM fingerprint software, or ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, which is created by UPEK. When IBM fingerprint software or ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software is installed onto the computer system, the vtserver.exe is also downloaded, stored on a file folder location in C:\Program Files, C:\Documents and Settings, or C:\Windows, registered into the Windows registry, and run in the background to perform its function, which may include the execution of other processes that are bundled within the program. Once successfully downloaded, the vtserver.exe file begins to run, and must be kept running as a background process, and not be terminated or deleted, unless it is causing problems that affect the system performance. Moreover, this particular module works with versions of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, which include Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows XP, and Windows Vista.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. vtserver.exe. is used by IBM fingerprint software or ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, If you shut down vtserver.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop vtserver.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is IBM fingerprint software or ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, from your system.
