The umxcfg.exe process is an executable program file integrated into the Host-Based Intrusion Prevention System software. This program is a Windows application classified as a system security tool developed by Computer Associates (CA) with a set of improved features implemented from the Tiny Desktop Firewall application, which was acquired by Computer Associates. The umxcfg.exe process assists the Host-Based Intrusion Prevention System software, more commonly known as HIPS, in the integration of the monitoring and protective functionalities of the HIPS application into the Windows-based system in order to detect and safeguard the system against potential hacker attacks, user privacy risks, data security threats, system stability issues and data loss or corruption caused by viruses, worms, backdoor rootkits, Trojans, spyware applications and badware items among other malicious programs. The umxcfg.exe process is specifically deployed as one of the EXE application resources of the HIPS Configuration Engine program, which is an applet built into the HIPS software.
