Taskkill.exe is the executable file for Kill Process, the program for ending one or more computer or software tasks or processes. It is a command used operating systems to send signals for running processes more commonly known as termination of process, the exit process. The kill command sends signals to the system or process groups running in the machine, referencing by their designated numeric process IDs. Microsoft's command-line interpreter is Windows PowerShell, the predefined command alias of the Stop-Process called cmdlet. The taskkill.exe is used by Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7, with the same syntax taskkill /im . The process file is also contained in unsupported released versions of Windows Resource Kits available for the NT, 2000 and 2003 versions of Windows operating system.
