The symEvent.sys system process is the file for Symantec Event Library, a driver file developed by Symantec Corporation. The SymEvent.sys process runs in the background upon initialization and may call modules among other resources of associated third-party programs installed in the system. These background processes normally become active once its associated applications start running in the background of the system. The SymEvent.sys file may also call required modules among other processes of the operating system when the user requests a feature integrated into a program that is associated with the SymEvent.sys process. This file generally performs a supporting function in order for the associated programs or operating system applications to provide the user with the requested set of features. Since these third-party application modules and operating system files are called by the SymEvent.sys process only when necessary, this retains the optimal performance of the system in running other third-party applications and vital background processes. The virtual memory and RAM resources of the operating system are also conserved for these important functionalities because these modules and files are just referenced and not directly loaded unto the system by the SymEvent.sys process.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. symevent.sys. is used by Symantec Event Library, If you shut down symevent.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop symevent.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Symantec Event Library, from your system.
