What is smcgui.exe
The file smcgui.exe is related to the software for Symantec Endpoint Protection. There appears to be two functions for the file: one is to enable the AV program’s Firewall, and the other is to enable the Graphical User Interface for the software. Occasionally, users would find the file as consuming CPU resources that is more than the normal range. It was also found to pop-up every so often, which most users find a little bit annoying. The file can be disabled if you do not wish to run the software’s Firewall service, and you have another Firewall service running. Disabling the file will not render the entire AV program useless. It will still perform its system protection tasks, just without the firewall. The usual folder for the file is C:\Program Files. Average file size is 1,443,144 bytes. You may also find this file in the size of 1,455,432 bytes. The latter is the less common size.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. smcgui.exe. is used by Symantec CMC SmcGUI, If you shut down smcgui.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop smcgui.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Symantec CMC SmcGUI, from your system.
