The reportingservicesservice.exe file, also called SSRS or SQL Server Reporting Services, is a Web-based report generator software, with the capacity to deliver printed reports as well as interactive ones when administered online. Developed by Microsoft Corporation, the user can utilize SSRS via the Report Server directly from the Web, or by the Report Manager, an application utility in the Report Server interface. Report Manager allows the user to view, manage reports, subscribe, and manage or maintain data file sources as well as security settings. Reports are delivered by e-mail or by being placed within a file system. The security system is role-based which can be assigned per individual item, for instance a report, a data source, or an items folder, or site wide. In addition, Report Definition Language or RDL reports can be viewed by using the ReportViewer in ASP.NET or by the ReportViewer found in Windows Forms control section. These methods allow reports to be directly embedded into the web pages or the .NET Windows. The control process reports in either of the two ways: (1) server processing, or reports obtained and rendered from the Report Server or the Web; and (2) local processing, where the file system renders the RDL itself.
