The file reader_sl.exe is installed when you download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 or higher versions of it. Its process is known as Adobe Acrobat Reader Speed Launcher. The file’s purpose is pretty much what its process name says: speed launcher for Adobe Acrobat Reader, which means that when you open a PDF file; the file will open or load much faster than its usual rate. Beneficial in theory, but a lot of users actually find the file as an unnecessary addition to startup tasks. Startup loading of all files and processes take just a bit longer when unnecessary files are enabled to run with system booting. The general consensus among users therefore, is to disable the file from launching with every startup operation. Doing so did not pose any noticeable changes in loading rate of PDF files, based on users’ observation. The file has a standard path of C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe. Version 7.0.0.0 has an average file size of 29 KB.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. reader_sl.exe. is used by Adobe Acrobat Reader Speed Launcher, If you shut down reader_sl.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop reader_sl.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Adobe Acrobat Reader Speed Launcher, from your system.
