The rar.exe file is a program for archiving multiple files, backing up of small and large data volumes, recovering file and data errors, supporting files with long names, and spanning files or packaging files into separate grouped files with specific sizes. RAR reduces the sizes of email attachments and other downloaded files from the internet, hence it frees up valuable space. RAR compresses data at a rate of 60%, with a 20-byte minimum file size and a maximum of 8 exabytes (or 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 bytes). RAR has a similar function as the ZIP, but with a faster compression rate. RAR was engineered by Eugene Roshal, a Russian software developer. He named the program RAR, meaning Roshal Archive. RAR is highly capable of handling very large data such as multimedia files. It has new features such as full-screen display of interactive interface with mouse and menu utilities as well as interface via a command line.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. rar.exe. is used by RAR, If you shut down rar.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop rar.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is RAR, from your system.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as RAR, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application.
