The p16x.sys process is a system component file included in the required system drivers and modules of the WDM Audio Miniport Driver module, which is a program that is bundled with the firmware and driver software components of certain soundcard devices from Creative Technology. The p16x.sys file is specifically bundled with the firmware and driver software components of the Creative SoundBlaster Live! P16X Series soundcard. The WDM Audio Miniport Driver module references the source code stored in the p16x.sys file whenever it needs to implement certain associated functionalities of the Creative SoundBlaster Live! P16X Series soundcard into the system upon user request. The p16x.sys file and the firmware as well as the driver software components of the Creative SoundBlaster Live! P16X Series soundcard are implemented with compatibility support for widely used versions of Microsoft Windows.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. p16x.sys. is used by Creative WDM Audio Miniport Driver Module, If you shut down p16x.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop p16x.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Creative WDM Audio Miniport Driver Module, from your system.
