The file nilm.exe is a process file from the company National Instruments Corp., and is known as the NI License Manager Daemon. A software license manager is a tool used by software vendors and end-user groups to control where and how software is used. FLEXnet Licensing is licensing management software that uses the application NI License Manager Daemon. The two components of the license manager daemon are lmgrd, which comprise the license server, and the vendor daemon. lmgrd handles the initial contact with FlexIm-licensed applications and passes the connection on to the identified vendor daemon. The license manager lmgrd starts and maintains all the vendor daemons listed in the vendor lines, and refer application requests to the correct vendor daemon. The two daemons (lmgrd and vendor) work together to manage the license keys. The lmgrd on Windows is a Windows NT service by default. It starts on TCP/IP port 27000 (default) when the server is started and will assign a random TCP/ IP port number to the vendor daemon, and start the vendor daemon on that port.
