The module msvidc32.dll is the 32-bit version of the Microsoft Video 1 video codec. Microsoft Video 1 (MS CRAM) is an early video compression and decompression algorithm (codec) that was released with Microsoft's Video for Windows. It provides excellent video quality and reasonable compression ratio, and was bundled with Windows Operating System in Windows 95, 98, and Me. Video 1 uses the 4 character codes (fourcc) to identify video data streams, and msvidc32.dll, one of these modules, uses the Video 1 (MS CRAM) compressor. The MS CRAM codec contains the lossy and spatial/ temporal codec that is used for compressing analog video. Two variants are used by the Video 1 codec. One variant encodes 8-bit palletized data, where the palette is stored in the AVI file header, and the second variant encodes 16-bit colors. The colors are BGR555 data. The variant used in a particular AVI can be determined by examining the AVI file header, specifically the biBitCount field of the bitmap header.
