The process SetDefaultMIDI is executed on the machine via the file mididef.exe. This is file comes from the drivers for Audigy and X-Fi audio cards from Creative. Users typically allow the file to run, deeming it as an important driver file for their onboard audio cards. This is usually pre-loaded by the manufacturers or vendors of laptops and desktops. It has a typical file path of C:\Windows\System 32\mididef.exe. There were instances where the file was found to be a virus, based on the personal accounts of several users. The most common observation regarding this detection is that the file may have already been altered or infected by a virus. The legitimate file that comes pre-installed on computers is a valid and safe file. Also, users who disabled the file discovered that their CD/DVD devices were unable to play their discs.
