The mbamext.dll file refers to Malwarebytes Anti-Malware shell extension, or Malwarebytes Context Menu, which is a component of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, also known as MBAM, and is developed by Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or MBAM is a protection solution against malware, as well as viruses, works and spyware. The primary functions or features of this software are to scan the computer, detect any malicious files that are considered malware, and then delete those files. The Chameleon technology is another feature, which is used to install the software on computers that are already infected with malware. When the program is downloaded, it can automatically scan, block and delete malware. The mbamext.dll file, that is housed in MBAM, must be active and running in the background, so the application is enabled. Once the software is installed on the system, this file is also included during its download, and stored on its folder location, usually in C:\Program Files.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. mbamext.dll. is used by Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, If you shut down mbamext.dll, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop mbamext.dll, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, from your system.
