The mapsource.exe process is deployed as the executable dispatcher file of the Garmin MapSource application, which is a program that is bundled with supported Garmin GPS devices. The Garmin MapSource program can be used to load and update the stored map data in a compatible Garmin GPS device with geographic maps that are downloaded from Garmin Web servers. The mapsource.exe process is normally stored in the same application folder where the Garmin MapSource software was installed in the system, which is usually a sub directory labeled "Garmin MapSource" under the Program Files directory of the system partition. When activated, the mapsource.exe process calls on other program files and system components that are required by the Garmin MapSource software to correctly implement its set of functionalities into the system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. mapsource.exe. is used by Garmin MapSource, If you shut down mapsource.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop mapsource.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Garmin MapSource, from your system.
