The program limewire.exe is the major component of Limewire Peer to Peer (P2P) file-sharing application. The use and distribution of digitally stored information such as computer programs and multimedia (video, music, picture, and games) is facilitated by the use of peer-to-peer networking and file-sharing applications. Limewire P2P employs DAAP (Digital Audio Access Protocol), the proprietary protocol in the iTunes software, in sharing its library. Limewire's open source code Gnutella Network is used by limewire.exe to locate and share files across the network. The application is available under the GNU General Public Software and is compatible with all major platforms. It is encoded using Java programming language and must be installed with Java Virtual Machine.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. limewire.exe. is used by Limewire P2P, If you shut down limewire.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop limewire.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Limewire P2P, from your system.
